Charles B. Warring Elementary School
Warring Elementary School's student population is diverse, serving a population that is predominantly Black/African American or Hispanic/Latino. About 16 percent of our students are English Language Learners and 25 percent receive some type of special education services.
In addition to classes, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs, extra-curriculars and extended learning time programs.
Clubs include: Student Government, Music Club, Art Club, Running Club and Girls Empowerment Club.
Extended learning time programs include: Academic enrichment program, Boys and Girls Clubs, The Art Effect, REAL Skills, Girl Scouts and The Poughkeepsie Farm Project.
Our school has extensive community partnerships to support our students:
- VELLOP tutors support our ENL population
- Mid-Hudson Migrant Education program
- Vassar College students volunteer to work with students struggling in reading
- Literacy Connections Book Buddies (retired teachers work with students in reading and math)
- Community members volunteer in classrooms
- M.H.A. (Mental Health Association) works with the school to promote social and emotional well being for students
- S.P.C.A. brings in certified therapy dogs to raise awareness for animal health and safety as well as developing responsible pet care behaviors
