Buildings nearly ready for opening day after busy summer; update from Superintendent Mott
The 2025-26 school year is almost here, and buildings across the Poughkeepsie City School District are almost ready for teachers and students after a busy summer of construction and reconfiguration.
Superintendent Gregory Mott, Interim Director of Facilities George Prine and others on Thursday toured several of the buildings to check on various improvement projects, the progress reorganizing elementary furniture and resources, and the maintenance and cleaning needed annually, in order to make a final checklist in advance of opening day.In addition to the soon-to-be completed elementary innovation labs, the group saw lighting and duct improvements in the high and middle schools, the first steps in installing an elevator at Clinton Elementary, cafeteria and other painting at Truth Elementary, outdoor beautification projects like the courtyard at the high school, and other projects.
While work remains, including cleaning or painting some spaces and returning furniture into many of the rooms, the tour showed with one more good push this holiday weekend the buildings will be on track for the first classes Sept. 4.
